Introduction to Casinos

Games of chance have been around since the beginning of mankind. Caves have been excavated and gambling implements have been unearthed within them. The writings of Sophocles show that dice were invented by Polamedes, who taught their use to the soldiers at the battle of Troy.
American Indians and Eskimos used sticks with various markings on them as implements to wager with Playing cards, in basic form, originated in Hindustan about A.D. 800. The first reference to their use was in Italy in 1279. From Italy they traveled through Germany, to France and then to Spain. The idea for suits originated in France sometime during the sixteenth century. As a matter of fact, the original names for the suits were French: pique (spade), coeur (heart), carreau (square, which later became diamond), and trefle (clover, which evolved into club).
As technology improved, so did gaming devices. The Roulette wheel appeared in Europe and the slot machine appeared in America. With the coming of the electronics age, there have been quite a few improvements and variations, but no real major changes, in the wheel games.

General Information

Welcome to the world of casino gambling, one of the most exciting adult activities. Where else can you spend a few hours and possibly walk away with a month’s salary? Where else can you play a game and be served drinks, just for the asking! It’s almost like having your fantasies come true. But is it really?
It is perfectly true that the opportunity exists for you to win huge sums of money in a matter of minutes. It is possible for you to lose, too. Before we go any further, it is very important for you to realize that the casino is a business. They must make a profit. Someone has to pay for the beautiful fixtures, the equipment, the dealers, the floor people, the taxes, and also make a profit for their stockholders. Guess who pays for all of that? That’s right—we do. Even the winners.
But don’t let my previous statement upset you. There is nothing wrong with the casino making a profit. Nothing at all. They want to win. But they also want you to win.
Depending on the game, the casino’s gross profit (before operating expenses) varies from as little as 3 percent to as much as 15 percent. That means that more than 85 percent of all money handled is paid back to the players. That’s you. Not everybody wins, of course, but many, many, do. Just enough for you to hear about “the guy who won a ‘grand’ playing Baccarat at Resorts” or how about “I hit the crap table for $75 in the Regency!” They are the casino’s best advertisement. They come back, and they bring their friends.
My advice to you is to take with you as much as you can afford to spend on a very fancy evening out. How much would dinner and a show, gas and tolls, parking, etc., cost? You wouldn’t object to spending that much for entertainment, would you? O.K., then take that amount with you to the casino and have a great time. Draw cards, shake the dice, watch the bouncing ball. Who cares if you win or lose? You are having fun! And, should you win, that’s the icing on the cake. That’s what will bring you back again, and again and again.
As long as you bring common sense into the casino, you won’t get hurt. There is no fun in going home broke. How can you face your family that way? No sir, be prepared to pay for your good time and you will have that good time! Every employee of the casino will have a huge smile for you.

Casino Gifts

All the drinks you want are yours while you play. Just ask for them and you will get them.
Are you sure that you really want them?
The casino will make your drinks available for very selfish reasons.
They want you to be relaxed and free. Not a care in the world. That’s great.
But while you’re relaxed and carefree, you might lose your shirt.
You might want to take advantage of their drink offer, just once. Take one drink as an icebreaker, but only one. If you are thirsty after that, have a cola or even an orange juice. The waitresses will bring you that, too. And by drinking only that, you will keep your wits about you at the same time.
Earlier, we tried to establish the difference between gambling and gaming.
The gambler is trying to win the whole bundle as quickly as possible. The person engaged in gaming is looking for an exciting evening, doing things that he doesn’t usually do. If he loses, he won’t be devastated, but rather, he is still happy that he spent an exciting evening in glamorous surroundings and it didn’t cost more than expected. If he wins, “Wow. When are we coming back!”
What if you do win, particularly if you win a nice amount? Well, you can take it home with you and buy your husband or wife that long-awaited gift that they would never buy for themselves. Or, you can take a vacation to Monte Carlo to try your luck in the most famous of all casinos. You might inquire at your favorite casino as to the possibility of opening an account that you will be able to draw against on later visits. This is not to be confused with credit in the casino. Think of it as a bank. You store your money with them and they allow you to withdraw it, at the tables, whenever you visit. Think about this option. It might come in handy when you hit an evening when the tables turn against you. Instead of having the modest amount that you can comfortably play with, you will have all that money that you have won in past visits.
Casino credit is a matter that can’t be discussed knowledgeably on a general level. Every individual is just that, an individual. What may seem like a perfectly good credit risk to a bank may not seem so good to the casino credit manager.
If you think you want credit, go to the cashier’s cage and ask your own questions. Only they can supply the answers. The final point that I would like to make is the fact that real money is not used in the casino in any game other than slot machines. Instead the casino uses checks, or as they are more commonly known, chips For the moment, just understand that you cannot use cash at the tables. All cash will be converted by the dealer into chips.
The dealer cannot cash in your chips later on. Only the casino cashier can do this. Chips are not interchangeable between any casinos. You must redeem all chips at the proper casino cashier cage.
Go now. Learn to play. Use this knowledge wisely and cautiously.
You will definitely have fun. You might even win. I wish you well!
